Exiles By Carolyn Kay Steedman Essay Example For Students
Outcasts By Carolyn Kay Steedman Essay Outcasts via Carolyn Kay SteedmanFirst impressions of Steedmans Exiles left me feeling as though the lady had a ton of sharp grapes to bargain with. The generally kind of the piece inclines toward the negative, the pessimistic and in some cases even the sarcastic. She appears to be especially incredulous of her folks, who most likely put forth a valiant effort with what they had, however no place do we see much in the method of empathetic compassion on her part. The title she decided for the piece, Exiles, accentuates the estrangement that she felt from her folks, just as the social/monetary distance which she felt her folks had endured. If I needed to put a specific definition on this translation, it would be that Steedman experiences an absence of objectivity. One such case of this skepticism shows up in the last section of page 649, wherein Steedman makes a special effort to portray in detail how her mom deceived her about her past:As a young laborer my mom had broken with an as of late settled custom and on leaving school in 1927 didnt go into the sheds. She misled me however when, at about the age of eight, I asked her what shed done, and she said shed worked in an office, accomplished administrative work. Steedman then proceeds to state how she had searched out and confirmed that this falsehood was valid:. . .I conversed with my grandma and she, perplexed, disclosed to me that Edna had never worked in any office, had in reality been apprenticed to a dry-cleaning firm that did fitting and patching. Steedman later on looked for extra chances to uncover her moms avoidance of the truth. From the highest point of page 650:. . .Presently I can feel the intentional ambiguity in her records of those years: When did you meet daddy?- Oh, at a party, at home. There were no photographs.Who came to London first?I wish since Id posed that inquiry. Thus Steedman continues endlessly attempting to uncover each conceivable negative thing she can uncover about her parents. She broadens her dad no more leniency either, as we see at the base of page 650:I recollect episodes like these, I think, since I was around seven, the age at which youngsters begin to see social detail and social differentiation, yet additionally more especially in light of the fact that the long exercise in contempt for my dad had started. . . . And furthermore at the highest point of page 651:But we had to pick, at an opportune time, which side we had a place with, and youngsters need to descend as an afterthought that brings the food home and gets it on the table.By 1955 I was starting to despise him-since he was at fault, for the absence of cash, for my moms horrendous disappointment at the state of affairs working out. My response to the entirety of this is What a complainer!Good distress, normally destitution and tough situations draws individuals together and causes them welcome the better things in life. This is especially evident with the individuals who persevered through the depravations of WWII and the downturn, for example, her parents. But perceiving how Steedman seems to have been one of the main children of post war America on the scene in the late 40s, one can perceive how riches and thriving presumably encompassed her in the community. Its astonishing how avarice sets in so rapidly upon a people and creates inside them a Gimmie! Gimmie! attitude that can never be fulfilled. Maybe Steedman is communicating the main type of vengeance she can correct from her folks, presently since a long time ago dead.By hauling their names through the mud apparently she might be getting some structure or cruel joy and satisfaction.I am certain she could never admit to it that way, however. She most likely f eels she has composed a significant insightful piecegiving her folks a disconnected, objective observation. They may have even gotten another of her case studies. But when everything is said and done, and the confirmations have been tucked back in the cabinet or waited on the divider, were all only a lot of narrow minded, greedy individuals who regularly surrender to the base and despicable. .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 , .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 .postImageUrl , .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 .focused content zone { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 , .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2:hover , .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2:visited , .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2:active { border:0!important; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; change: mistiness 250ms; webkit-change: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2:active , .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2:hover { murkiness: 1; change: darkness 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relative; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; text-enhancement: underline; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; fringe range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt span: 3px; text-adjust: focus; text-beautification: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d 4fc2 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u6a8bed60877272a2fe39b3a0c17d4fc2:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: The Bank Of New York And Its History EssayThis piece was about name-calling.It was a painstakingly hidden endeavor with respect to the author to shield her vindictive expectations toward her folks with social witticisms and scholastic prowess.I wasnt fooled.Anyone who can't bear to allow their folks only a tad of slack, or maybe even a smidgen of delicate silliness for the extreme occasions they experienced truly hasnt grown up yet.

Anything thatââ¬â¢s alive, from microbes to plants to people, is made out of cells. Also, what are cells? The exacting definition is a cell is a gathering of organelles encompassed by a flimsy film. The cell hypothesis definition expresses that cells are the structure squares of life. Cells both make up every single living thing and run the procedures required forever. Your hair, skin, organs, and so forth are completely comprised of cells. Truth be told, every individual is assessed to be comprised of about 40 trillion cells! Each piece of a cell has an alternate capacity, and your cells are liable for taking in supplements, transforming supplements into vitality, evacuating waste, and that's only the tip of the iceberg. Essentially, everything your body does, it does in light of the fact that cells are coordinating the activity! The third piece of the cell hypothesis definition expresses that all cells originate from prior cells. This implies cells donââ¬â¢t simply show up out of nowhere (known as ââ¬Å"spontaneous generationâ⬠). New cells are constantly produced using current cells. His work later adds to section three of the cell hypothesis. 1670s: Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, a Dutch researcher, starts his work growing better magnifying lens that permit researchers to see cells and the organelles they contain all the more obviously. 1839: German researchers Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann portray the initial two pieces of the cell hypothesis. Schleiden expressed that all plants are comprised of cells, while Schwann expressed all creatures are comprised of cells. Schleiden and Schwann are commonly credited as the engineers of cell hypothesis. 1855: Rudolf Virchow, another German researcher, depicts the third piece of cell hypothesis, that all cells originate from existing cells. Cells even assist us with understanding central issues, for example, life and demise: a life form whose cells are living is viewed as alive, while one whose cells are dead is viewed as dead. Before the cell hypothesis existed, individuals had a totally different perspective on science. Many trusted in unconstrained age, the possibility that living life forms can emerge from nonliving issue. A case of this would be a bit of spoiled meat making flies since flies regularly show up around bad meat. Furthermore, before cells and the cell hypothesis were known, it wasnââ¬â¢t comprehended that people, just as all other living life forms, were comprised of billions and trillions of small structure hinders that controlled all our organic procedures. Malady, how living beings develop, and demise were substantially more of a puzzle contrasted with what we know today. The cell hypothesis in a general sense changed what we look like at life. Rundown: What Is the Cell Theory? The cell hypothesis is one of the essential speculations of science. It has three principle segments: 1. Every single living thing are comprised of cells. 2. Cells are the fundamental structure squares of life. 3. All cells originate from previous cells made through the procedure of cell division. As our logical information has expanded after some time, extra parts have been added to the hypothesis. Schleiden and Schwann, just as Virchow, are by and large observed as the originators of the phone hypothesis, because of their spearheading logical work during the 1800s. Completing a project based on ideas of personal interest gives high school students a great opportunity to develop and demonstrate the real life skills that are required for success in todayâs competitive world. The senior project format varies not only from state to state but even from school to school in the same district. But typically, the senior writing project consists of the following steps: Generating writing project ideas and choosing a topic of personal interest Completing a research paper on that topic Having real life experience related to the chosen topic Having practical experience related directly to the chosen topic Keeping a record of achievements demonstrating your work Presentation In some cases, high school students complete the final project on their own, but there are schools that allow group projects and group presentations. All good writing turns around good ideas. No matter what you are writing, you will always spend much time and effort generating ideas. Only few people can easily come up with an interesting topic at once, put their thoughts in order in their heads, write down great ideas for a creative writing project, and organize their argument. But for most of us choosing a good topic for the final project may not be easy so the common question that high school senior school students ask online is: What are the three best ways to generate ideas for a writing project? A lot of people would agree that the best ways to find new topics and ideas for writing are conducting online research, asking the reference librarian, and writing out ideas. When you have chosen a topic for your written project, you can use different ways to generate ideas for your writing and here are the three best methods. Brainstorming is making lists of every idea you can think about your topic no matter how crazy or silly it is. Freewriting is similar to brainstorming but you should write in sentence and paragraph forms without stopping for 15-20 minutes. Idea map/web may be useful that you think better visually. An idea map or idea web can immediately show key relationships between ideas and encourage developing ideas in one direction without confusing other ideas. The Best Creative Writing Projects Ideas Many middle school and high school students do not like writing and think that completing essays and book reports is a boring chore that they cannot escape. But creative writing projects can be incredibly fun because they give students a chance to enjoy a break from formal essay writing and written tests. Unfortunately, when the students are uncertain about their writing skills, creativity or imagination, creative writing can be incredibly terrifying although learning to write creatively is crucial for future success in college and the job market. Motivating middle school students to write may be tricky and require well-chosen writing projects ideas for middle school that appeal to their growing sense of personal independence and individuality. Creative writing begins with observing the world and sharing the best images with the others. It can be done in the form of writing journals, poetry, short stories, and essays. High school students are usually mature enough to cope with more complex creative writing project ideas for high school because they often strive for artistically polished writing. Creative activities for high school students may include Writing a simple poetry, for example, haiku Composing a short story based on a news Playwriting Describing memorable events Alphabet story where each sentence begins with the next letter of the alphabet Monolog or a letter to a special person (a deceased relative or a friend, or someone who lives far away in another state or a country) High school students may also experiment with innovative, genre-bending forms like stories in form of innovative lists a story in 140 characters (Twitter format) an essay written in a form of a quiz an essay written in a form of a Google map video poems series of letters Tired of writing essays and poetry? Try to write something useful instead. Technical writing helps people solve a certain problem or get necessary information about a specific topic. Technical writing examples include instruction manuals how-to guides recipes textbooks operating instructions multimedia presentations Besides, every field of study and an occupation has its own specific language that is included in specialized reports and other written projects that are considered technical writing too. If you were given a technical writing assignment, you may try these interesting technical writing project ideas. Write instruction manuals on how to use Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or any other social media that high school students are good at. Write a recipe of your favorite food keeping in mind that your directions should be specific enough so that everyone could make the food properly. Write a contract regarding daily chores about your house and make sure you define all the terms. Rewrite a school policy. Journey to Duke Fuqua Marine-Turned-MBA, Entrepreneur, and Dad
Learn how real students navigate their way through the business school admissions process and b-school itself with our What is Business School Really Like? series. Meet Andrew, a Marine veteran, entrepreneur, new father, and first-year MBA student at Duke Fuqua. Andrew, thank you for sharing your story with us! What made you decide to go to business school? Andrew: Leaving the Marines I knew that in order to be hired into mid-level management positions, an MBA would be a good route for me to take. How did you decide which programs to apply to? Were you willing to relocate to attend school? Andrew: I only applied to Fuqua. I loved my experience so much that I put everything I had into being accepted. In theory, I would have relocated but I am local to Raleigh so relocating wasnââ¬â¢t my first choice. Applying to only a single business school shows real dedication. What was your level of familiarity with Fuqua prior to applying? How did you know it would be a good fit? Andrew: I visited Fuqua several times before applying, and I found everyone to be very open and welcoming. I was especially drawn to its veteran community. It didnââ¬â¢t take long for me to realize that Fuqua was where I wanted to be, and I decided that making a full commitment to Duke gave me the best chance to have success with its rigorous and competitive application process. My family and some of my friends thought I was a little crazy for applying only to Duke, but it was a risk I was willing to take, and Iââ¬â¢m gratified itââ¬â¢s worked out so well. Did you experience any bumps along the road to business school admission? How did you identify and deal with the issues? Andrew: The experience in general is extremely stressful. I reached out to current students and alumni in order to get insight and help. What about extracurriculars? What extracurricular activities did you participate in either in the military or your civilian life? Andrew: I worked with a nonprofit organization called Warrior Wellness Solutions from 2013-2018. WWS is based in Durham and offers holistic health solutions to American military veterans who are wounded, ill, or injured. Iââ¬â¢ve worked as a peer mentor and in event planning and fundraising. Working with the veteran community has been and continues to be a tremendously rewarding experience. Duke is known to have some creative (and tricky!) application essay questions. How did you approach your essays? How, specifically, did you approach the 25 Random Things About You question? Andrew: With my essays, I tried to caveat my experiences as an entrepreneur and Marine into a relatable experience with the culture at Fuqua. I took specific experiences I had and explained the lessons learned and how I would translate those lessons to better the Fuqua community I wanted to belong to. The essays are your chance to show a side of yourself outside of your resume. My 25 things essays highlighted highs, lows, growth, and experiences. I really tried to show the admissions team my true self outside of my resume. Once business school began, what surprised you most about the experience? Andrew: How thoughtful and friendly my classmates are. I wasnââ¬â¢t able to attend many social events because my wife was 8à ½ months pregnant. My section mates understood this and surprised me with signed books and baby gifts for my daughter. It was very touching and a huge surprise. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! How do you manage to juggle your roles as student, husband, and father? Andrew: It was hard, especially at first, but I learned that Team Fuqua is for real. My classmates and first-year team really kept me afloat for the first few months after my daughter was born. They actually stopped class to surprise me with baby gifts. They bought us a mamaRoo bassinet and onesie pajamas, and my entire 76 student section signed books and left notes for my daughter. When I was struggling to keep up from lack of sleep, some of them took the time to help me in subjects within their areas of expertise, and they made sure I grasped the material well enough to pass my classes. It reminded me a lot of the Marines ââ¬â the fact that it takes a team effort to achieve objectives. As for outside of the classroom, I put my duties as a father and a husband first. Things have gotten a little easier now that our daughter is older, and my wife and I have even found time to go out socially every once in a while. How have your experiences and duties in the Marines prepared you for business school and for the world of business? Andrew: Serving as a sergeant in the Marines taught me several things, including the value of teamwork and the importance of leadership skills. It also helped me develop the kind of work ethic that kept me going while attending school fulltime and working in my familyââ¬â¢s entrepreneurial startup. Marines are taught to accomplish their mission no matter what roadblocks they may encounter, and even to make something out of nothing if thatââ¬â¢s what it takes. Iââ¬â¢m learning to apply those lessons in the business world and to share them with friends and classmates whenever it seems appropriate. What is Juicekeys and what role have you played in the company? Andrew: Juicekeys is an entrepreneurial startup created by my wife Kelly and her brother Chris. Kelly became interested in the power of healthy foods when she was transitioning from a career-ending gymnastics injury years ago. Like me, Chris is a former Marine, and he was exposed to many different juice bars when he was stationed in California. After he left active duty, he completed his MBA at USC Marshall and brought the vision of Juicekeys to Raleigh. It had very humble beginnings, with an original staff of only Kelly, Chris, and their parents. In three years, we have grown from one to three locations and we now have more than 45 employees. I started at Juicekeys in a managerial position and later became the director of operations. Itââ¬â¢s pretty much a jack-of-all-trades job that includes leadership development, supply chain, customer relations, and whatever else might be needed at a particular moment. How did your civilian experiences in entrepreneurship make you a stronger MBA applicant? Andrew: This is a great question! When people tell me they want to be an entrepreneur, I usually give them the Southern response of ââ¬Å"Bless your heart.â⬠Being part of a startup isnââ¬â¢t for everyone. I know what itââ¬â¢s like working 20-hour days and taking no pay in the hope of growing a business into a successful venture. And weââ¬â¢ve been able to create what I and others think is the best juice bar in North Carolina. Iââ¬â¢m confident that the things Iââ¬â¢ve learned at Juicekeys, and also in the Marines, will help me as a mid-level or senior executive in a company that values people with a Fuqua MBA. What do you think your classmates would be surprised to know about you? Andrew: I am a complete teddy bear. The Notebook is one of my favorite movies. I told my wife on our second date I was going to marry her. She told me I was ââ¬Å"crazy.â⬠I laughed and said ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re probably right, but I am going to marry you. When I proposed to my wife I got in touch with Nicholas Sparks and had him sign her favorite book with the inscription ââ¬Å"Kelly will you marry Andrew, with love Nicholas Sparks.â⬠This December will be five years that we have been together. Did you grow up in the South, and if not, how do you have ties to the area? How has Dukes location affected your business school experience? Andrew: I grew up in Chicago and Southern California. My wifeââ¬â¢s family is from Raleigh. I love the area and think Durham is a great place to live. Was it difficult to become a student again after years spent away from the classroom? Andrew: Iââ¬â¢m actually in my fifth year of school at this point. I started my undergraduate degree in 2014 while I was transitioning out of the Marines. It was discouraging at first because after taking placement exams at the local community college I had to start with developmental courses. My math score, for example, was around the eighth-grade level. I graduated from Campbell University with a 3.92 GPA in 2018 and started at Fuqua last August. It was definitely hard at times, but I had an amazing support system to give me a reality check when I needed it. Fuqua has definitely been the most difficult coursework I have personally experienced. The great thing is youââ¬â¢re always around amazing people who are extremely talented. So it is easy to push yourself in order to match the output of your peers. Working in teams has also been a huge help because more often than not one of us has experience in the subjects we may be covering and can help the group to understand better. Have you participated in a student internship? Andrew: I will be starting an internship in project management at Cisco this summer. I will be working on global strategy, planning, and operations. Cisco is a great company and itââ¬â¢s high on my list of places Iââ¬â¢d like to work within the tech industry. Iââ¬â¢m grateful for the opportunity and canââ¬â¢t wait to get started. Why did you decide to pursue an MBA as opposed to one of the many related graduate degrees that seem to be gaining popularity in recent years (Masterââ¬â¢s in Finance, Masterââ¬â¢s in Management, Masterââ¬â¢s in Data Analytics, etc.)? Andrew: An MBA from Fuqua holds a lot of weight. We have world-class professors that teach every one of these subjects. For example, I could choose to major in Finance and Decision Sciences. In my opinion, not all MBAs are created equal. In my opinion, Fuqua is the best MBA program in the United States. We are truly a community that looks after one another. What are your plans, post-MBA? Andrew: Iââ¬â¢d like to work in the technology industry in project or product management, with a backup plan of doing tech sales. The decision sciences, marketing, and strategy classes Iââ¬â¢ve attended at Fuqua have been priceless in helping me prepare to accomplish that goal. What advice do you have for students beginning their MBA journey? Andrew: I would say be genuine, be intentional, be yourself, ask for help, and build relationships. I would not be at Fuqua if I didnââ¬â¢t have advocates in the form of admissions staff, current students, the Duke Armed Forces Association, and alumnus. I wanted to be at Fuqua more than any other school, so I really put myself out there with admissions. I sent updates on my progress and stayed in touch with staff. When the time came to choose candidates for acceptance there was no doubt how committed I was to coming to Fuqua. Do you have questions for Andrew? Questions for us? Sexual Assault Prevention Training For Protecting Male...
Sexual Assault Prevention Training to Protect Male Servicemembers According to the GAO report, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) officials have focused the SAPR program on females.28 Even this yearââ¬â¢s Presidential Proclamation for the National SAPR month only addresses female assault victims.29 In the past, male victims were discussed as just a small percentage in training (1%). When looking at the raw numbers, that is where you can see there are more males assaulted than females annually; 10,600 males to 9,600 females.30 Any number is too much, but the services need to do more to educate the force about male victims in order to improve the environment for reporting It starts with better training materials and videos to address prevention and response for male victims. Most of the training focus has been on females where sexual assault is perceived as sexual gratification. Sexual assault against males is not the same and are acts of violence, domination and humiliation against the member, not ââ¬Å"acts motivated by sexual attraction.â⬠31 Men are more likely to experience ââ¬Å"repeated physically violent assaultsâ⬠that occur in the context of hazing.32 Education is key to highlighting these differences and addressing the root cause, hazing in the workplace. Using multiple male examples, based off real life events will bring stories to the numbers. The more the military discusses male sexual assault as an act of violence and physical domination, the more we can get

Grover Cleveland (March 18, 1837ââ¬âJune 24, 1908) was a New York lawyer who went on to become governor of New York and then president of the United States. He remains the only American president to serve two non-consecutive terms in office (1885ââ¬â1889 and 1893ââ¬â1897). A Democrat, Cleveland supported fiscal conservatism and fought against the cronyism and corruption of his time. Fast Facts: Grover Cleveland Known For: 22nd and 24th president of the United StatesAlso Known As: Stephen Grover ClevelandBorn: March 18, 1837 in Caldwell, New JerseyParents: Richard Falley Cleveland, Ann NealDied: June 24, 1908à in Princeton, New JerseyEducation: Fayetteville Academy and the Clinton Liberal AcademyAwards and Honors:à Namesake for numerous parks, roads, schools; likeness on a U.S. postage stampSpouse: Frances FolsomChildren: Ruth,à Esther, Marion,à Richard, Francis Grover, Oscar (illegitimate)Notable Quote: ââ¬Å"A cause worth fighting for is worth fighting for to the end.â⬠Early Life Cleveland was born on March 18, 1837, in Caldwell, New Jersey. He was one ofà nine offspring of Ann Neal and Richard Falley Cleveland, a Presbyterian minister who died when Grover was 16. He started attending school at the age of 11, but when his father died in 1853, Cleveland left school to work and support his family. He moved to Buffalo, New York in 1855 to live and work with his uncle. He also studied law there on his own. Despite the fact that he never attended college, Cleveland was admitted to the bar in 1859 at age 22. Career Before the Presidency Cleveland went into law practice and became an active member of the Democratic Party in New York. He was the sheriff of Erie County, New York from 1871ââ¬â1873 and gained a reputation for fighting against corruption. His political career then led him to become the mayor of Buffalo in 1882. In this role, he exposed graft, lowered the costs of transportation, and vetoed pork barrel allocations of funds. His reputation as an urban reformer appealed to the Democratic Party, which tapped him to become governor of New York from 1883ââ¬â1885. Marriage and Children On June 2, 1886, Cleveland married Frances Folsom at the White House during his first presidential term. He was 49 and she was 21. Together they had three daughters and two sons.à His daughter Esther was the only child of a president born in the White House. Cleveland was alleged to have had a child by a premarital affair with Maria Halpin. He was unsure of the childs paternity but accepted responsibility. Election of 1884 In 1884, Cleveland was nominated by the Democrats to run for president. Thomas Hendricks was chosen as his running mate. Their opponent was James Blaine. The campaign was one largely of personal attacks rather than substantive issues. Cleveland narrowly won the election with 49% of the popular vote while gaining 219 of the possible 401 electoral votes. First Term: March 4, 1885ââ¬âMarch 3, 1889 During his first administration, Cleveland championed several important acts: The Presidential Succession Act passed in 1886 and provided that, upon the death or resignation of both the president and vice president, the line of succession would go through the cabinet in chronological order of creation of the cabinet positions. In 1887, theà Interstate Commerceà Act passed and created the Interstate Commerce Commission. This bodys job was to regulate interstate railroad rates. It was the first federal regulatory agency. In 1887, the Dawes Severalty Act passed and granted citizenship and title to reservation land forà Native Americansà who were willing to renounce their tribal allegiance. Election of 1892 Cleveland won the nomination again in 1892 despite New Yorks opposition through the political machine known as Tammany Hall. Along with his running mate Adlai Stevenson, Cleveland ran against the incumbent President Benjamin Harrison, who defeated Cleveland four years prior. James Weaver ran as a third-party candidate. In the end, Cleveland won with 277 out of a possible 444 electoral votes. Second Term: March 4, 1893ââ¬âMarch 3, 1897 Economic events and challenges became a major focus of Clevelands historic second presidency. In 1893, Cleveland forced the withdrawal of a treaty that would have annexed Hawaii because he felt the United States was wrong in helping with the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani. In 1893, anà economic depressionà began called the Panic of 1893. Thousands of businesses went under and riots broke out. However, the government did little to help because it was not seen as constitutionally allowed. A strong believer in the gold standard, Cleveland called Congress into session to repeal the Sherman Silver Purchase Act. According to this act, silver was purchased by the government and was redeemable in notes for either silver or gold. Clevelands belief that this was responsible for reducing the gold reserves was not popular with many in theà Democratic Party. In 1894, theà Pullman Strikeà occurred. Theà Pullman Palace Car Companyà had reduced wages and the workers walked out under the leadership ofà Eugene V. Debs. When violence broke out, Cleveland ordered federal troops in and arrested Debs, thus ending the strike. Death Cleveland retired from active political life in 1897 and moved to Princeton, New Jersey. He became a lecturer and member of the Board of Trustees of Princeton University. Cleveland died on June 24, 1908, of heart failure. Legacy Cleveland is considered by historians to have been one of Americas better presidents. During his time in office, he helped usher in the beginning of federal regulation of commerce. Further, he fought against what he saw as private abuses of federal money. He was known for acting upon his own conscience despite opposition within his party. Obesity Is A Disorder Of The Endocrine System Essay
Endocrine System Obesity Obesity is a disorder of the Endocrine System. Obesity means having too much body fat, it occurs over time when more calories are eaten than being use. The balance between calories-in and calories-out differs for each person. Factors that might affect weight consist of your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high-fat foods, and not being physically active. Furthermore, several endocrine abnormalities are reported in obesity. Some of these abnormalities are considered as contributory factors for the development of obesity, whereas others are considered to be secondary effects of obesity and usually are restored after weight loss. Thyroid hormones usually are normal in obesity, with the exception of T3 which is elevated. Prolactin is normal but prolactin response to different stimuli is dulled. GH is low and GH response to stimuli is dulled. IGF-I levels are normal or elevated. Cortisol, ACTH, and urine free cortisol levels are usually normal; however, a hyperresponsiveness of the HPA axis with increased cortisol and ACTH response to stimulatory tests is observed in extremely obese individuals. Obesity is connected with an increased risk of a number of diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis, stroke and several types of cancer, and with decreased longevity and lower quality of life. For example, the increased production of oestrogens in the fat of older women who are obese is associated with an increase in breast cancer risk.Show MoreRelatedEffects Of Exposure Of Females To Androgen Agonists1031 Words à |à 5 Pagessex hormones in the brain. Running Head: Computer Software and information SystemComputer software is no longer a major barrier to wide use of wireless information systemsComputer software is no longer a major barrier to wide use of wireless information systemsIntroductionTo know about the connection of these topics it is must to know about the link between these phrases as well as the basic concept of these two. Firstly, to know what is computer software and wireless Information systems and then secondly to discuss about their affects upon each other. Computer software is basically some programs or events that are written just to achieve certain functions by the software engineers. Events are the set of steps that is written and combined to make a program. Now there arises a question that what is a program then the answer of this question is that: Programs are basically a set of rules and instructions on the basis of which a computer act to achieve certain functions. To perform specific set of actions on computers intelligently or normally is the basic need to write a program.Wireless Information systems are basically the systems that used wireless. What is Wireless and why and how question arises then? Wireless, as its name shows that it means some sort of transport of data and information among wireless devices without using wires. It can be used in form of mobiles, PDAs, and on large scale Radio is the example of it. Wireless information systems can be range on mobiles, wireless devices and networks. The device used for it is basically a device that is installed first and then it can be used. (Wireless network and information processing system, 2008)Certain DependenciesIn case of Wireless information systems there are certain dependencies. Among those dependencies some of them are very basic and are:mobility of the usermobility of the resourceExplanationThese dependencies can be differentiated in a way that in case of user mobility it can be in the form of travelling user whereas the case with the second dependency is that a network if created among multiple PDAs and now in this case if the PDAs are moving. Along with this dependency there is certain other as well. Just to be focus on the actual behavior of the wireless and then wireless information systems only two are mentioned here to emphasize the main and important factors affecting the wireless in general.Important features to consider aboutThere are certain tendencies that are important to know about these systems. Accord ing to these, Information systems have to develop first. While developing these systems a software engineer needs to know the protocols (specific rules of dealing on networks) and standard to follow upon them and then to develop finally (Feldman, 2007). There are certain standards that need to follow while considering wireless. In this way, there appears a need to select a standard according to the type of wireless information system. Those standards are as follows:IEE802.11IEE802.11aIEE802.11bIEE802. 11gIEE802.16IEE802.16aOpen AirHome basedBlue tooth basedDiscussionAfter implementation of these steps, architecture to develop a software program is required. When these wireless systems developed then these should cope with the problem fairly on real time. If an architecture of software program is designed in such a way that it is safe for security flexibility and other issues as well. If technology is implemented selected in an improved way then an information system can work well. If there are leaks in the design and programming tactics and technology implementation then there would be a lot of leak in the system as well that result in a very severe or drastic problem. In this way it can be say that software programs that developed to resolve a problem needs attention in all these metrics to work upon and to get a better result. If there is a better program written by a programmer who is reliable and portable, efficient and of strong functionality then fulfill the better requirement in this case. Whereas if we are talking about the wireless information systems things become more sensitive as we are dealing on real time and gather a lot of security risks. Thats why after applying and implementing rules and regulations and following the standards will get the better results. The use of wireless information systems is beneficial for the companies and organization in various ways first of all it is accessible in minimum resources. It reduces the time and mobility issues problem and enhances the productivity of the organization in this regard. (Wireless Networking in the developing world session 2007)The use of wireless management systems can improve th e effectiveness of applying multiple procedures. Output of these procedures when resulted in a good form then increased or enhanced the productivity of the organization in a fast manner. Well reputed industries, companies and organizations are referring towards these wireless information systems that is very fast growing. Along with all this there are still new advancements are just coming on the way to increase the quality of the projects or to attain the benefits of the technologies as much as it can be.ReferencesPhillip M. Nursing Elsevier Health Sciences
Question: Discuss about the Nursing for Elsevier Health Sciences. Answer: 1. Down syndrome is characterized by intellectual disabilities, dysmorphic facial features and distinctive phenotypic characters. This man is a patient of Down syndrome with moderate intellectual disabilities and Type 2 diabetes. Down syndrome with intellectual disabilities and chronic illness like Type 2 diabetes upset the normal flow of life and inflict various adverse effects on this man through his lifespan (Chang Johnson, 2014). According to Chang and Johnson (2014), patients like him faces many limitations in language and communication skills in young age. Language and communication are that zone where slow improvement is most evident. Patients like this man face a hard time giving answers by speaking in early school ages. Communication is a great obstacle for children with intellectual disability. They rely more on body languages such as signs and gestures. Down syndrome also acts as an obstruction for constructing cognitive and social abilities. Situational anxiety is sometimes manifest during transitions to a new situation. Disruptive, hyperactive, impulsive, oppositional and inattentive behaviours are common in young age (Pikora et al., 2014). As a teenager or a young adult, a man like him with Down syndrome may have better language, cognitive and communication skills but commonly have increased vulnerability to depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive behavior, mood associated problems, sleep disorder and reduced interest in everything. This problems results in social withdrawal (Glasson et al., 2014 and Pikora et al., 2014). With age increased vulnerability changes in older adults. A 45 years old man with Down syndrome can suffer from generalized anxiety, loss of attentiveness, lessened self-care, depression, social withdrawal and deterioration with debility in social and cognitive skills. Aging may also cause dementia in a Down syndrome patient (Glasson et al., 2014). Type 2 diabetes is chronic disorder caused by insulin resistance. It is strongly associated with obesity. There is a high chance of the patient to be overweight. In this disease patient experiences thirst, headaches, dizziness, cramps, blurry sights, tiredness and weakness. High level of fats such as cholesterol and triglycerides are prevalent in blood (Craft et al., 2015). The complications of Type 2 diabetes grows with aging, especially after the age of 45 years. This type of diabetes dramatically increases the risks of various cardiovascular disorders including angina, coronary artery disease, stroke, heart attack, atherosclerosis and high blood pressure etc. Excess glucose can cause neuropathy, nephropathy and diabetic retinopathy (Craft et al., 2015). Type 2 diabetes may also intensifies the danger of Alzheimers disease. Being a Down syndrome patient with disability, this man is unable to maintain proper care of his chronic illness. It not only give him physical sufferings but a lso makes him inactive and weak which acts as a barrier for achieving social and cognitive skills. 2. International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is a structure established on the principles of primary health where the environment of individuals as well as participation and activities is considered fundamental to their health and wellbeing. The ICF model is aimed to facilitate the measurement and effect of both health and disability in an individual. Central of this model has two core areas that permit practitioners to appreciate the degree of disability of a patient (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), 2016). The two spheres of ICF model are: Functioning and Disability Body function and structure Activity and participations Contextual Factors Environmental influences Personal factors The ICF model can be applied across the entire lifespan and is also appropriate for all age groups (Rouquette et al., 2015). The man has Down syndrome and Type 2 diabetes impairing his intellectual, physical and emotional capacities. This disorders creates activity limitations for the man as he is not able to perform like other people. He faces difficulty in carrying out multiple tasks, making decisions, solving problems and acquiring skills independently. Communication, interpersonal interaction is also affected because of his disabilities. His disability made him less likely to participate in a range of domestic and social works. Not only the Down syndrome but also his Type 2 diabetes caused him from being socially active. Down syndrome along with Type 2 diabetes causes muscle hypotonicity and this reduces the activity level and energy requirement of the patient. It also causes tiredness and weakness and is associated with the higher frequency of being obese (Craft et al., 2015). The Down syndrome makes him mentally disable and diabetes makes him physically disable. The combination of these factors illustrates how the mans activity and participation are potentially affected across his lifespan. References Chang, E., Johnson, A. (Eds.). How to Write a Research Paper Topic That Will Grab Students Attention
How to Write a Research Paper Topic That Will Grab Students' AttentionIf you are new to the process of writing a research paper, it is likely that you have not thought about what research paper topics are for students. One of the biggest mistakes that researchers make is that they write too many papers about different topics and forget to include social media in education. These topics are absolutely essential to every student and need to be included as part of your research paper.Education is not a good place for research papers, as most teachers don't like them and they tend to have some low scores. The subjects that students want to read about the most are celebrities, movies, entertainment news, science, business, and current events. Research paper topics can vary based on the students. You should take advantage of the online access that most students have to the internet. This means that you should be able to research any topic that students are interested in and then put them in to your paper. The content of the paper should include the students' demographics as well as the subject of the paper. If you are going to write a paper about current events in recent times, you can use a strategy called 'fact checking.' Fact checking takes all the research that you have done and then checks it against the actual evidence in the media to see if what you have written is true. This will help you to get more votes. However, it is important to note that fact checking isn't always accurate and you may also need to do your own fact checking.Once you have researched what students are looking for in your research paper, you should begin writing about these subjects. For example, if you are researching the movie, 'The Fast and the Furious,' you should write about the movie, 'Fast and Furious.' This means that you will begin by describing what the movie is about and how the characters interact with each other. Then you will move on to the characters' personal lives and their l ives at home, and so on.If you are writing about current events, you should write about things that students are looking to know more about. However, if you choose to discuss celebrity scandals, then you should state your research in a way that can not be found on the internet or through tabloid news reports. The people that students want to learn more about are unlikely to use Google or search the internet. You should describe the topics in a way that doesn't bring up unflattering articles or stories. Many students would like to find out more about social media, and if you are writing a paper about this subject you should incorporate social media into your writing. In the case of a student who wants to research a social media phenomenon, you should be careful not to mix social media in with the actual research. Just enough should be written to describe what is happening, but not enough to expose the student to inaccurate information. As you can see, it is important to write research paper topics that are relevant to the students' needs. By following this basic rule, you will be more successful in writing an excellent paper. A well-written research paper should contain only facts, and by using these tips you will be able to keep your research to only those facts that your students are interested in.

Research Paper Topics For Environmental Studies
Research Paper Topics For Environmental StudiesResearch paper topics for environmental or sustainability are some of the most important aspects when it comes to studying a topic. When writing a research paper, students must consider the topic thoroughly before diving into it.Environmental organizations are continually looking for fresh and innovative ways to deal with the issues that have been facing the environment for quite some time. This is why these organizations are always looking for researchers who can do actual research on different environmental issues. To be able to study topics such as these, students must know what these types of environmental issues are and how they affect the environment. As the environmental issues of the past years have grown, so has the interest of people in environmentalism. Many people who are concerned about the environment have begun doing online research on these issues. By doing this online research, these people are able to gain information an d knowledge on the environmental issues and their effects on the environment. While doing this, students will find out more about the diverse aspects of environmental studies. One way for students to make themselves stand out among all other students in their class is to have an expertly written, researched paper during the course of the environmental study. Students can also try to write a paper that will involve interactive projects. In this case, students should put their own input as well as that of other people as they research different environmental issues. One good way to get students to study the specific environmental issue they are going to be writing on is to involve them in the research. When they help out with the research, students will be better able to incorporate their own opinion and ideas. They will also be encouraged to come up with their own suggestions when they get time. This is what makes students develop strong opinions when it comes to studying environmental issues. This project should also be given special attention to in the research paper. There are certain materials that will help students come up with their own ideas when it comes to the environmental issues. This means that students must choose which of these materials to use. After all, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to research paper topics for environmental issues.Eco-friendly clothes are one of the materials that can be used in order to create a balance between the environment and the people who wear them. If students can successfully create eco-friendly clothes that are stylish and comfortable, they will be able to learn more about the environment and the possibilities that are involved with it. This knowledge will help them take on other aspects of environmental issues such as energy conservation. What students will also need to come up with a plan of action for addressing the issues they are dealing with. They should also make sure that they are able to formu late a plan that is not based on what other people think or do. This is what makes these types of environmental issues so hard to tackle. The environment is an inexhaustible resource and those who believe they have the knowledge needed to make it better must take responsibility for it and do their best to protect it.
